Dress Code: Business Casual

Military uniforms are not routinely worn off-post in mainland Japan. In order to improve your cultural experience in Tokyo, we have selected a Business Casual dress code to facilitate additional experiences off campus during the lunch periods. Name cards will be provided to identify participants during the symposium.

For Men:

  • Shirts: Collared shirts such as button-downs or polo shirts. Avoid t-shirts unless they are of higher quality and without graphics.
  • Pants: Chinos, dress pants, or smart jeans. Ensure they are well-fitted and free from rips or excessive fading.
  • Footwear: Loafers, dress shoes, or clean sneakers. Avoid sandals or overly casual shoes.

For Women:

  • Tops: Blouses or smart tops. Opt for sleeves; avoid tank tops without a cover-up.
  • Bottoms: Dress pants, skirts, or tailored dresses. Ensure they are at an appropriate length and fit well.
  • Footwear: Closed-toe flats, low heels, or stylish boots. Sneakers can be acceptable if they are clean and neat.

For All:

  • Avoid: Casual jeans, shorts, slippers or street shoes.
  • Avoid: military duty uniforms, military dress uniforms, unit tee-shirts and other overtly American affiliated apparel.
  • Do Not carry pocket knives in Japan.
